TimeSplitters 4 is the tentative title for the latest installment in the TimeSplitters series. The Official Playstation Magazine announced in an article in late June 2007 that TimeSplitters 4 was to be Playstation 3 exclusive. However, this is most likely either bias or the game will be announced for additional consoles as developments continue.

Any other details about the game, including a planned release date, have not been revealed at this time. In the OPM article, a logo parodying the Gears of War logo was used, consisting of a monkey head in a gear. This suggests that the game may be focusing more on parodying other popular FPS then previous TimeSplitters titles. Another feature in OPM showed Master Chief from the Halo series with a Monkey head. A small trailer on FRD's site also shows the modified Master Chief picture.


Many fans, upon hearing the news, posed the question on how the Story mode would turn out since at the end of TimeSplitters: Future Perfect Cortez stops the war from ever happening. Some specualted that TimeSplitters 4 will have no story mode, others were left to imagine their own speculations.

On 20/8/07, N4G.com had a video interview with David Doak who commented that TS4 will be "A game that is pure gameplay." This suggests, like some fans speculated, that TS4 will not have a story mode. It may also suggest a reversion back to the TimeSplitters 2 "gameplay-driven" story with a minimal story.

As the name suggests, the Sniper Rifle is mostly used for sniping enemies from afar. The rifle is mostly used in stealth missions, such as 1990 Siberia.
It has a very high scope, so you can aim at enemies hundreds of meters away. However, it is almost impossible to hit a quickly-moving target with this weapon. Also, the sniper rifle is a horrible weapon when it comes to close combat.

A futuristic machine gun that has a increasingly higher rate of fire power untill it overheats. It then needs to cool down. As a secondary fire it shoots plasma grenades. The ultimate fighting weapon of the future, made of solid titanium, it can let lose rapid rounds of fire as well as firing off time-delayed grenades. Be careful that you don't over-heat, giving the enemy time to attack

TS FP

The Plasma AutoRifle is a futuristic automatic rifle with a very high rate of fire. It has appeared in TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters Future Perfect.
The TimeSplitters 2 version fires blue plasma laser bolts primarily and has an under-mounted plasma grenade launcher as its secondary fire. You can carry a maximum of 200 laser bolts and 20 plasma grenades for it. The TimeSplitters 3 version fires only red plasma laser bolts, dropping the grenade launcher entirely. However, it does have a zoom feature(supposedly because of the scope on top), something that the TS2 model lacks. The maximum amount of laser bolts you can carry for it is 400. Both versions, when fired full-auto, start off with a moderately high rate of fire, with the RoF increasing exponentially as the gun heats up, until it overheats entirely. Neither version uses magazines, nor do they require any sort of reloading. Because it takes a relatively long time for the weapon to cool down after overheating, the Plasma AutoRifle is most efficient when fired in quick bursts. It is also quite powerfull, cutting down enemys with ease. It is best used against single opponents, or very small groups, as the cooldown time leaves it very vulnrable to larger groups. Although In Timesplitters 2 in the opening cut scene Corporal Hart rifle shoots red lasers were as Cortez are Blue, although both guns look identical. .

Strategy

This is a Capture The Bag, and you are with two people against a bunch of bots. When you have the bag, you can't shoot. You're team-mates will actually do an all right job of protecting the bag. So, first off, head towards their bag (using your radar) and try to avoid the bots, as killing them brings them back to their bag so it will be tougher to get away with it. If you can, get a Soviet Rifle. While heading back to your bag, avoid the bots. When you get there, score if you can, but if they have your bag, wait for your team-mates to secure it. If a pack of bots try to kill you, run around the corner and keep circling around so that they can't hit you and you can score when you get your bag back. Be advised, you'll need to be really quick to get the gold.

There is another way to get gold on Old Blaggers. The quickest way to the blue bag is through the centre of the bunker (NOT a glitch!). Go to the tile which points Block A-2 and go down whenever you can and steal their bag. Then go back to "Block A-1" and go to your bag. You will score 1 point. But this isn't the only way to score points. Your team score you points as if you were their master. I only died twice doing this! No lies. For experts of the TimeSplitters Series only.

He is playable in the first two and appears as a main character in the second level of Future Perfect, alongside the Jungle Queen.


TS1 Gesture Takes a water flask out his jacket, raises it and says "Cheers!", then drinks it all down. He throws the flask off screen then whipes his face. TSFP Gesture Makes boxing/punching movements whilst saying "Ooh! Time for fisty-cuffs, splendid!"
TS2 Galley Adventurer extraordinaire, Capt. Ash's exploits have carried him to the four corners of the earth. He's always accompanied by the most glamorous assistants and never averse to stopping for a spot of afternoon tiffin. Just to keep the pecker up, you understand- Tally ho! TSFP Gallery On returning from his Amazonian adventures, the esteemed Captain Ash has been enjoying traditional hospitality in bonny Scotland. Although with the company of the Jungle Queen during those dark Caledonian nights it’s been less of the Robbie Burns and more of the carpet variety...

Background

Little is truly known about Captain Ash's background, though it is suspected that he served in the infantry during the Boer War towards the end of the 19th Century as a teenager, before becoming an officer and a Captain in the trenches of World War One. After the war, he retired from the military to set out on adventures of his own, traveling the world. One of his first stops would be the Amazon Jungle.

1920 Aztec, Guatemala

In TimeSplitters 2, Captain Ash appeared in the Aztec Level alongside his lover, the Jungle Queen. He set out to retrieve the time crystal scattered at that location with the aid of a group of mysterious yet helpful monkeys, encountering Aztec Warriors and Stone Golems. However, his military training came in handy and he managed to enter the Aztec Temple before finding the time crystal.


1924 Scotland The Brave, Island

In the third game he was shown again in the story during 1924 in an apparently hushed up incident involving what appears to be Russian soldiers taking a Scottish isle for an unknown reason at that point in the game. He was still madly in love with the Jungle Queen, and once more was on a mission to rescue her from the island before the British Navy attacked the Russian soldiers at the island. While rowing out to the island, he encountered Sergeant Cortez, who had time traveled to that location and time frame. The two partnered up, stormed the castle on the island, and rescued the Jungle Queen. However, Cortez went on when Ash traveled off the island, apparently rowing into the sunset with the Jungle Queen.

1935 Tomb, Egypt

The first recorded appearance of Captain Ash is, ironically, his last one chronologically. He is introduced in the first TimeSplitters game, but is not a character of great importance, only appearing in the Egypt level, which reveals his search for an Ankh which he can use to stop a ritual. He appeared alongside Lady Jayne in this level. At the end of his adventures in Egypt, it is uncertain just what happened to either of them, but it is likely that Ash's adventures were far from over.


Lady Janye/Jungle Queen?

Where exactly the Jungle Queen was in the Egypt level from TS1 is not known, but it is theorised that she took on a proper name and became a dignified lady, and that lady is Lady Jayne. This idea is backed up by the Jungle Queen's gesture "You Tarzan, me Jane, let me show you how we do it in the jungle".

However, Lady Jane worked with Jake Fenton, PI in Chicago in 1932, where she owned a prominent detective agency. However we know this is not the same person because her TS2 Gallery profile says that she lived in Switzerland and attended (but later skipped) a school there "This hot-blooded socialite skipped Swiss finishing school to set up her own Private Investigation Agency in Chicago."

Trivia

  • On the second level, Scotland The Brave, Captain Ash gives Cortez instructions on how to use dynamite. Anya then says that she thinks the Captain has "done this before." This could be a reference to the Egyptian level of the original TimeSplitters game, where the player- who had the option to play as Ash, among others- used dynamite as a weapon. However, chronologically, as Scotland the Brave is set 1924, while Egypt was set in 1935, this isn't true. (But chronology means nada in the Timesplitters world, since time travel itself is the recurring theme, and therefore this could still be a reference, just one "out of time", so to speak.)

"Leaking" Roof

If a Indoor map is created with weather set to "Storm", rain appears on screen despite the fact the map is an indoor map. It has only happened to me in the "Horror" and "Lab" tilesets. Also, it's only worked so far with "Storm"


Ramp/stairs

If you put a ramp or staircase in a map with doors on both exits, and if you walk toward the wall, you'll fall through it. It works on the tileset Metal Lab.


1. Basic Merging of Tiles( 2 possibilities)

1.1 Select the two tiles you want to merge. Put one of them on the fifth floor, and the other one below it, on the fourth. If they are two stories in height, place the bottom floor of the top one in the fifth. Next, grab the tile that you used to move the two Story AIs up and move it down to the third floor. Mark the three tiles: the two you wish to merge and the third one below them. Grab the one at the bottom and move it into the fifth floor. After you release it, move it back down to the fourth floor. Now, open up your Story AIs. Find the one that is in the sixth floor and select "Show in Map." You will see the bottom of the two tiles that you moved above the fifth floor. Mark it, then move down two floors to find the tile you left there, and mark it as well. Then move it up one floor so that the two tiles are now merged in the seventh floor. Jump to the Story AI in the seventh floor and you will find them. In order to move them back down into the level, highlight them by dragging a selection box, then move down to the fifth floor and mark the tile you have there, grab it, and move it down two stories. You now have two merged tiles in the fifth floor. If you want to move or delete them, you have to highlight them by dragging a selection box. Simply grabbing them or marking them does not work.

Now that you know how to do that, you can acheive some very cool effects.

1.2 The glitch introduction... for you OK Glitching for Dummies: Place 4 3x3 stockables in a row in the right top corner ( but they have to touch eachother) like that ,then mark all tiles and and pull the cursor out of that MM raster The cursor should be above the first tile,outside of the raster then you should see, that there is that grabbing option,when you slowly near the cursor to the raster Grab the marked tiles and place them again (cursor should remain outside of the raster) Then, ohhh! a part of the tiles will be overleaped (about the size of a corridor) Delete one tile which is overleaping the other one... This part is now invisible (invisible=you can't grab it) Place a corridor on it and delete the mentioned 3x3 room Now you have an invisible corridor Place another corridor on it, and mark them , but not with the normal mark mode Move the cursor , as you want to mark many tiles Make that twice, so that you have 6 corridors with the size of a normal 3x3 room Delete the 3 corridors, and place a 3x3 room on them, then first mark them with the normal marking option and then move the cursor again...the invisible corridors will be marked now Place another room mark it also and grab the new room, so that the 3 corridors are now visible Delete them, and place a further 3x3 room onto them. FINISH

2. The Floating Platform

Merge two large open stackables or two small open stackables. Bring them down to the fifth floor. Place more stackables on each side of it; this will remove the walls. Before you play it, move the Story AIs back down from the seventh and sixth floors so that the platform will be the highest tile and therefore without a ceiling. You now have a platform floating out in the open in the middle of the skybox.

3. Windows to the True Outside

I have wasted so much space in previous maps of mine making an outside area that players couldn't get to just for aesthetics. This is a much easier way. Create a room. Merge two stackables as if you were making a floating platform. Place them bordering the room and place stackables on all sides and above and below the ones you merged. Separate the merged tiles from the room with a window. Now, when you play the map, you can look out a window and see the skybox outside.

4. Perpetual Blood Machine

Create a military map. Place a deathtrap on the fifth floor and a small open with a spawnpoint in it on the fourth. Merge the two. Now, whenever you spawn, you will instantly explode. Note that the deathtrap must be above the other tile when you merge them or it will not work. It does not work on Lab, Horror, and Egyptian and I have not tested it on Virtual.

5. Didn't I Just Come From That Way?

Place a triple corridor on the fifth and a small T-Junction below it on the fourth, facing a way such that the wall is perpendicular to the direction of the corridor. When you merge them, the T-Junction wall will be invisible and passable on one side, and visible and impassible on the other. Players will walk through a corridor and turn around and see a wall blocking the way they just came from.

6. 3-Way Teleport

Place a One-Way send Red Teleport somewhere on a map and a One-Way receive Yellow Teleport elsewhere. Then, merge a One-Way receive Red Teleport with a One-Way send Yellow Teleport. Players will walk into the Red Teleport and emerge somewhere in the level. When they walk back through, they will end up somewhere entirely different from where they started, effectively making a three-way teleport.

A note about merging tiles and tile visibility: Sometimes, when you merge tiles, and are walking through the tile in mapmaker preview, you'll notice adjacent tiles suddenly disappear from visibility. There is a simple rule to how this works: any tile already placed in the mapmaker when you merge the tiles will not go invisible, ones you place afterwards will. If you placed tiles after you merged them and do not want them to go invisible, grab the tiles you merged--which will in truth only pick up one of them, leaving the other, ungrabbable one behind--rotate them around four times so that they end up in the same direction they started, and place them back down.

7. Sky floor

Place a normal 3x3 room on a stackable one, then place a further 3x3 stackable room under it. The floor will turn to sky, and you will be still able to walk on it.

8. Doors/Windows everywhere

Make a normal 3x3 room "invisible", then place 2 small rooms on it. Put a window between these two rooms, mark the 3x3 room and move it away. The window/door will be glitched into the normal room.

9.Windows/doors diagonal

Place an "invisible" room and put the open bunker corner on it, then place a window/door where it is supposed to be on the bunker corner. Make the normal 3x3 room visible -> the window/door will be diagonal in the room.

10. Walking on small stackable rooms (Military TS only)

Place an "invisible" trench corner. The stackables you place on the white parts of the trench corner will turn to an "invisible" floor, so that you can walk and shoot through them. Don't forget to place some stackables under the first ones. Its useless otherwise.

11. Flames in tiles (Horror TS only)

A bit more complicated... Place a big deathpit and put (a) random room(s) on the 1st deathpit floor. Put a big room (2 floors - Important!) in front of it. The flames belonging to the deathpit will now be seen in the random room(s). You should place the big room at the end otherwise the glitch will be messed up ...If it happens that some parts of the rooms turn to sky then just replace the big room...finish.

12. One way windows

Make the tile you want to see through "invisible". Place the rooms that will be connected to it later. Now chose a room that has the same size and place it on the "invisible" room. The room which will be added will show you the tile you placed on the 1st one. Try to make a tunnel: -make a small ramp (size:2x1) "invisible" put a small corridor in front of it -after this you have to place a further small corridor but now on the ramp. -place a room on the side where the ramp cant be connected usually, the last room you placed is now connected to the small corridor. -put a window between these two rooms

You will now be able to walk on the ramp like you do it in a normal match but when you go behind the ramp you can shoot on the people walking along the corridor and ramp.

13. Floating Remote Mines

Stack every possibe stackable starirway (in millitary tileset) and make a small room at the top. In there, put your starting point and remote mines. When you play arcade with two people, have one person load up the other person with remote mines, and then have them fall down the middle of the stairwell. When you go to the bottom, mines will be floating in mid air!

  • Deathmatch: Everyman for themself, an all out war. No real restrictions are in this game.
  • Team Deathmatch': Team up and fight the other teams, or be by-yourslef and face everyone. No restrictions. Details in Deathmatch.
  • CTB: Capture the bag? In TimeSplitters, they forget using a flag and replace it with a bag!
  • Bag Tag: One bag in the center of the map, alot of players, goal, hold the bag for the longest! Some restrictions are in this game.
  • Flame Tag: Its like a game of tag, just with a flame. Try not to get touched.
  • Virus: Its a game of tag, but once your taged, you stay taged. Try not to become a virus.
  • Assault: Take over/ Defend a base.
  • Elimination: A Deathmatch, but instead of unlimited respawns there is a limit. The winner is the last person standing.
  • Escort: Two teams, the Attackers and Defenders play. The Attackers must try and kill the Escort Bot, the Defenders must stop this from happening.
  • Knockout: Retrieve the single bag from the map and bring it back to your team's base to score.
  • Last Stand: Complete Phases and fend off enemies in different scenarios.
  • Vampire: Health is gained by killing enemies.
  • Shrink: Your height reflects your rank in the game. The person with the most kills is the tallest, the person with the least kills is the smallest.
  • Thief: Collect coins left over by enemies when you frag them.
  • Leech: Gain health from shooting your enemies.
  • Zones: Score by capturing and holding the most command posts.
  • Gladiator: Only the gladiator can score. The person who kills the gladiator becomes the gladiator. If non-gladiator kills another non-gladiator no points/kills are awarded.
  • Monkey Assistant: The person in last place gets a squad of monkeys to help them get kills.
